Ultrasound Day

The 2006 year started out great with our ultrasound clinic.  The 4-H members brought their pregnant goats and got to see the babys on the ultrasound.  Lorna also got to see her baby!

What is Ultrasound?  Ultrasound is a method which uses sound waves with a very high frequency.   This sound is much higher than humans can hear.   These sound waves are sent out of the transducer and through the goat’s body.  When the sound waves hit something some of them are bounced back to the transducer and the amount that come back are what is measured and turned into a picture.  When the sound waves come back they look white.

Krista, Brianna, and Lea all had pregnant goats although we do not know exactly how far along any of them are.  Chelsea and Dawn's goat were not pregnant so we got to see open does also.

What are we really looking at?

The following images are of a fetus and placenta that came out of a doe that died.  The fetal age is unknown but probably about 60 days.  This will show you what the fetus in it's sac with its button attachments (cotyledons) and what the mom's placenta with it's cotyledons looks like.  These pictures are real.
